Basically you have to write an exam in gulf called preliminary exam to get qualified as doctor , then they will call u ...then u have to take a licence to practice


GP (General practice) EXAMS IN UAE


There are 3 qualifying exams for 7 emirates in UAE. They are HAAD exam in Abu Dhabi , DHA exam in Dubai and MOH exam for the other 5 emirates. But if you qualify in HAAD exam you can work in all the 7 emirates.

DHA Exam in Dubai

REQIURMENTS : You need MBBS Degree, Internship Certificate and minimum 2 years experience to appear for the exam. You get total 3 attempts for 1 year (then you need more experience for next attempts).


The process is easy and can be done individually. For the exam, first register through www.dha.gov.ae.Go to ‘licensing services’ and register. You will have to upload all your certificates .Then, they will contact you through your email id regarding the payments and other requirements. You can also contact them through the toll free number given in the site.(the process is very confusing for many.That’s why I gave a detailed description).the whole process will take about 2 months .When it’sdone, go to the site and select a date for the exam. The exam is conducted by Prometric group.


About the exam : The exam has 70 questions and 2 hours’ time .Questions are comparatively easy and small ones .You get enough and more time .The scoring percentage is also average(HAAD ,the scoring percentage for Indians is very high).You will get the result in one week ,either through your mail or through the website.


After the exam : Once you pass the exam, you will get an Eligibility Letter from DHA .Then you have to find a job and then apply through the hospital for the license. The Eligibility Letter is valid for one year and will get expired if you do not make license within one year of passing the exam.


Usually we get jobs mainly in clinics and medical centers….....only with more than 5 yrs experience , we can get jobs in hospitals.


Study materials : Exams are mostly USMLE step 2 type…but simple. Go through Kaplan USMLE series….and do as much questions as possible. Kaplan question bank also helps.

HAAD EXAM 

This exam is for GP practice in Abu Dhabi. There are 2 ways to proceed to the exam.Either individually or we can apply through the hospitals .To apply directly; go to website, www.haad.ae and proceed. If you want to go through the hospitals, you have to contact them and they will select u after an interview .Once they select you, they will do all the registration and other works. You just have to submit copies of all the certificates and wait for the hall ticket. You will have to work in the same hospital once you qualify.(I don’t have much idea about registering directly as I did it through the hospital . All I know is that the process is difficult)


About the Exam : The exam is difficult than the others .You get 3 attempts the first time.The exam is conducted once in every 3 months.Now they have some centers in India also.The exam has 120 questions in 180minutes…the questions are more lengthy .No negative marking.For Indians, we need a high percentage.We get the results immediately after the exam.


Study Materials : Mainly the exam is USMLE step 2 CK model.So go through the Kaplan notes,Question banks.Some also recommend Swanson.Do as many questions as possible.
